Jay

Trainspotting devastated me.

Indelible scene.

Just be with someone the first time you watch.

Maybe I’ll find cliff notes…

Have you ever seen the TV series Elementary with Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu? I personally loved it. It took place in NYC.

Thank you for sharing your version!

Not the entire show, but I definitely did my research into it when I started working on my own series! Jonny Lee Miller is great. Trainspotting is one of my favorite movies.

Thank YOU for reading!

Really enjoying this. One small criticism, if you don't mind. You spend quite a bit of time rehashing the events of chapter 1. I understand it's to catch readers up if they missed the chapter. Perhaps an alternative solution would be to direct them to the previous chapter if they missed it.

Thank you for the feedback, Konrad!

I think you meant to leave this comment for chapter 2. I see what you mean, the beginning of the second chapter summarizes what is learned throughout from chapter 1. I thought that it would be needed just to make sure the stakes/dynamics are clear for the rest of the story. I may have gone too far, and will probably end up tweaking things in the future to help with the flow. Either way, there won't be as much summarizing going forward because I think if people get past the first few chapters, they have a fairly good idea of the characters & conflict.

I really appreciated feedback like this. I want to make the novel as good as possible, so thank you again!

No problem. I’m editing my own novel, The Everett Interpretation, and will be posting it here soon. As I edit, I am guilty of the same thing. Something I learned about writing a mystery. Keep it tight. Too much exposition bogs down the narrative. The delete key has become my friend.

So fun. I have never been to Thailand, but even transposed they retain the same fascination.

Thanks for reading, Susan!

Well, it pulled me in. Made me want to read more. I want answers like Holmes does. Its a little quirky, but I like it. Would like to read more.

A thrilling adventure written with deep reverence for the timeless detective! This masterpiece was well worth the wait. I look forward to the next chapter, as I'm sure it'll be just as electric as this one!

Having read "A Study in Scarlet" and enjoyed it immensely, I was delighted to detect the numerous allusions to the original in this piece as well.

Placing the stories in Bangkok colours the familiar in new light.

It can be hard to find good fiction on SubStack, for all the well-written articles.

I'm looking forward to the next chapter with interest.

I'm excited to hear what you pick up since you've read 'A Study in Scarlet' 👀 I really want to hint at what happens in chapter 4, but I won't ruin it haha.

Thank you for the kind words! Excited for you to read the rest.

I felt like I was thrown into the chaotic hustle and bustle of Bangkok. Tight writing, great storytelling! Can't wait for the next installment.
